What amount of monetary compensation should I ask for?
What amount of monetary compensation should I ask for? A flight was scheduled to depart SFO at 5:00 PM but was delayed until after 6:00 PM arriving IAH right at 12:00 AM May 21, 2011, IAH shuts down at midnight. There was supposed to be a wheelchair at the arrival gate to meet me, but there was no wheelchair there. I took the electric shuttle from the arrival gate to the escalator to the baggage claim area. I didn't fall down this one. I landed at IAH concourse C where there is no Delta agent. I was told that the agent was located at concourse A and that I had better hurry as the shut down time was midnight. I was in a hurry to get to the tram to get to concourse A and try to catch a Delta agent to get my hotel voucher. I tripped over my luggage. I had my checked bag, a small laptop computer and a carry-on carrier with two kittens in it. This caused me to fall down the escalator from the baggage claim location to the level of the tram and other areas of the airport. I somersaulted at least once. When I started to fall I threw the kittens, carrier and all, as far as I could to keep from falling on them. They weren't injured but were pretty well traumatized. The only person to try to assist me was an unknown woman holding a placard with a person's name on it meeting some flight at Concourse C. Another arriving passenger stopped by momentarily, he was there about one minute before he left. The lady with the placard tried to help me get the bleeding stopped but then went on back up to the baggage claim area. It was then that a flight crew, must have been a Continental crew as they were on the C concourse helped me get up on my feet and brought me paper towels to staunch the bleeding in left hand, where a 1" x 2" piece of skin was torn off of the heel of my hand and a bloody place on my right upper arm. No one, other than the flight crew, from Continental Airlines or Houston Airport made any attempt to come to my aid. Injuries include: Severe bruise to Lt. hip and thigh, still painful 1 month later. Pulled muscle Lt. shoulder, still painful 1 month later Bruised Rt. shoulder Bruised Lt. elbow Bruised Rt. elbow Multiple abrasions. It was a painful 2 week vacation, I could hardly walk, I just sit around and watched television. This was my first vacation in three years and the first time to see my daughters and grandchildren in three years and the first time to see my wife in one year.
